Detection sports

Group class.

You may have heard of the fastest growing dog sport in the world by the name of Nosework, scentwork or maybe even sniffies.

We like to call it Detection sports.

Below you can find some FAQs to help you decide if this is the right sport for you and your dog.

  • Nosework is a canine sport that taps into dogs' innate tendency to sniff and hunt. It originated from professional detection dog training and has been adapted as an enriching activity for pet dogs. Dogs have an exceptional sense of smell, up to 40 times greater than humans, making them well-suited for finding target odours.

Us humans like to participate in Nosework trials for fun. There are 2 main organisations running trials in Au. The ACSW and the ANKC. Our classes will help you and your dog excel in both versions.

  • By engaging in a structured sniffing game that capitalizes on their natural abilities, dogs can build their confidence. In nosework, dogs encounter a range of controlled challenges that they can learn to overcome independently. Overcoming these small challenges regularly can significantly benefit timid and anxious dogs. However, nosework can also be beneficial for non-anxious dogs, as it offers mental stimulation that promotes their overall well-being and serves as an enrichment activity for them and their owners.

  • If your dog has a nose, they can play the game.

We welcome reactive dogs (human and dog) in a safe controlled environment.

Older dogs with mobility issues are also welcome. This is a low impact sport.

No need for any obedience and no need to feel judged if your dog is a bit crazy! (we like crazy!).

As above, NW can help with reactivity and provide a great outlet for high energy dogs.

  • Location TBA (please fill out form below)

Classes: 1hr per week over 6 weeks.

Max size 6 dogs per class.

    $200

Only one student and dog will be running at any given time. This not only ensures a safe environment for reactive dogs but also allows students to learn by watching each other. There is much to learn from watching.

In between runs, all dogs must be secured in a vehicle or a crate.

  • Kerr has been participating in and teaching Nosework for 5+ years.

He is a judge and Certifying Official (CO) with the Australian Canine Scent Work (ACSW). This has allowed him to watch 100’s of dogs running in trials.

Having enrolled in the Certified Nosework Instructors (CNWI) course, with the creators of the sport (NACSW), back in 2019 he has been teaching the NACSW system for years.

Kerr has adapted his training by also implementing skills and theory from the professional detection world. This combined systems and ideas apply directly to the sport world.

We use what works best for each dog. So far it’s working pretty well.

We don’t often get a chance to run our own dogs as much as we would like but we do have a nice collection of shiny ribbons.

  • I knew you’d love it!
